From Here to Eternity

From Here to Eternity
Released Date: October 15, 1953
Director: Fred Zinnemann
Actors: Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed, Frank Sinatra, Philip Ober, Mickey Shaughnessy, Harry Bellaver, Ernest Borgnine, and Jack Warden

There are a lot of movies on the attack of Pearl Harbor. Some are big movies, some are documentaries but all are fantastic. Such an incredible story and such bravery from our Military Men. You couldn't have a more perfect cast. During this movie Burt Lancaster, who was a tad older than Montgomery Clift, was nervous while shooting because he was such a huge fan of Clift. Frank Sinatra was fantastic as well. Montgomery Clift was going through stuff, and was drinking on the set. He is known to have had kept a bottle with him at all times and would stick pills in the bottle. He had a very dangerous addiction, one that cost him his life. You know it was great because the movie was the tenth highest grossing film in the 1950s. The movie grossed $18 Million dollars. If you have not seen this movie, I'd  highly recommend you do so.

It is 1941, on the beach of Hawaii. Pearl Harbor, the military base. Robert E. Lee Prewitt (Montgomery Clift) was a boxer in his early days. But because of an accident during one of his fights, he no longer wants to box. He is in the Army, a true American. Sgt. Milton Warden (Burt Lancaster) takes Prewitt under his wings and watches out for him. The boys take on love, Prewitt with Lorene (Donna Reed) and Sgt. Warden with the Captain's wife, Karen Holmes (Deborah Kerr). This affair has one of the biggest known scenes in hollywood history, the beach scene with Deborah Kerr and Burt Lancaster. It is a beautiful scene. They are taking a chance on love, but they can't help themselves. Meanwhile, Angelo Maggio (Frank Sinatra), a friend of Prewitt's, is drinking heavily and even going A-Wall. So much is happening during the days before the attack. But every scene makes you wish you were on the beach of Hawaii. The movie shows a love between army men. It is such a beautiful film, so please see it, put it on your bucket list!

Oh, and one more cool piece of  information, the Captain, Philip Ober, was married to I Love Lucy's Ethel. Thought that was very interesting.

Director: George Stevens
Actors: Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor, Shelley Winters, Anne Revere, Keefe Brasselle, Fred Clark, Raymond Burr, Herbert Heyes, Shepperd Strudwick, Frieda Inescort, and Kathryn Givney

This movie is based on a book by Theodore Dreiser called An American Tragedy. Which the book was based on a real life story about a man by the name of Chester Gillette. Try to not look up Chester Gillette online before watching the movie, it will give away the ending ;)

When I think of classic beauty, a few names come to mind... Grace Kelly, Lauren Bacall, Bette Grable and.. You got it, Elizabeth Taylor. Classic handsome falls under Cary Grant, Gary Cooper, Clark Gable and.. You got it, Montgomery Clift. The two worked together and became lifelong friends, until Clift's death in 1966. You may have heard about the car accident that involved Montgomery Clift, it was Elizabeth Taylor's house that he was leaving when the accident occurred, and it was Taylor that found him.

Poor George Eastman (Montgomery Clift), is on his way to see his extremely rich uncle, Charles Eastman (Herbert Heyes). George starts working for his uncle in his factory and tries hard to impress him. The one rule that is given to George, is that he cannot date any of the girls he works with. So what does he do? He ends up dating a coworker, Alice Tripp (Shelley Winters). They go out a few times, and fall in love. George ends up going to a party at his uncles house. He starts to talk to a very attractive and popular girl, Angela Vickers (Elizabeth Taylor). And once again, the boy is in love. Which causes a huge fight between George and Alice. When Alice announces that she is pregnant, she believes that this means marriage with George before she starts to show. A big vacation from work is coming up, and Alice wants that time spent getting married and going on a honeymoon. But Angela wants George to go to her lake house. What will he do? He ends up going to the lake house, but telling Alice that he is going with his uncle, NOT Angela. But a newspaper reveals the truth, and Alice sees what he is really up to. She is not happy, and threatens George and wants to get married right away. What does George do? How does he keep Alice from finding out his second life, or is he able to keep that news away? Find out by watching this very shocking film, based on a true story, a true Love Triangle.

I Confess

I Confess
Released Date: March 22, 1953
Director: Alfred Hitchcock
Actors: Montgomery Clift, Anne Baxter, Karl Malden, Brian Aherne, O.E. Hasse, Roger Dann, Dolly Haas, and Charles Andre

Alfred Hitchcock grew up as a Catholic. This movie is based on a priest and shows a very difficult situation that he cannot control due to the priest law. Montgomery Clift, being a huge star at this point, and also a stud muffin did a great job playing a priest. He even studied how priests walk and copied to perfection. This was a great trait Clift had, and is why a lot of directors loved working with him. However, he did experience a lot of health issues during his adult hood. Was in a huge car crash that changed his face, and was diagnosed with stomach issues most of his adult life. He died at very young age even, and Marilyn Monroe, who was noted as having a lot of problems even quoted, "he's the only man I know with more problems than I have." He did have a drinking issue during this movie, and during a ferry scene in this picture. Alfred Hitchcock hated confrontation and had his assistant director and actor Karl Malden, talk to him about his drinking habits while working.

In the beginning of this movie, you can spot Alfred Hitchcock walking the top of a staircase during the opening sequence. Father Michael Logan (Montgomery Clift) is the priest at this Catholic church in Quebec, Canada. With Otto Keller (O.E. Hasse) and his wife Alma (Dolly Haas, also the name of Alfred Hitchcock's wife) working as the housekeeper in the said church, Otto is also rather close with Father Logan. He gave the Keller's a place to stay and trusted them as well when nobody else would. Ruth Grandfort (Anne Baxter) use to be the love interest of Logan and because of the war she ended up getting married. So when Logan came home, once he found out of her marriage and also having a change of heart, became a priest. Ruth and Logan had an appointment with a man that happened to be murdered the day before the appointment. Inspector Larrue (Karl Malden) suspected Father Logan. Nobody else suspected the kind man, but due to information, Logan is the only suspect. But due to a confession of the actual murderer himself, Logan is unable to reveal the truth. Will the truth ever surface? Will Father Logan survive the accusations? Find out by watching this amazing film directed by the amazing director himself.
